When I was a young boy, one of my biggest dreams was to become a magician. I spent alot of time learning tricks, practicing, and showing them to anyone who would watch. However, as I got older, and into more complex tricks I foud that I could just not do some of them because of one big problem. Because my fingers are so scrawny, I literaly can not palm a card. The edges stick out, and it can be seen between my fingers. Since discovering that, I have put magic to the side.
Despit this however, I still have a facination with magic. I think it's a gateway to the imagination. I still love to learn new tricks (some of them I can do:P) or just watching magic. Here I want to know the geneal view on modern magic.
I loved David Blaine, I think he was the first modern magician to make a connection with people through magic. He was the first one to take the art out onto the street and give people a little mystifying moment, and bring it to others all around the world.
Criss Angel has continued this gaining a cult following known as "The Loyal". I think this is a great example as a way to connect with people through magic. He has also inspired younger magicians by revealing some simple tricks which are easy to start off with.
Even though they are the mainstream, having thier own shows, there are also other great illusionists like David Copperfield, Penn & Teller, and Lance Burton who have had great impacts on the world of magic.
The problem I find with Magicians doing this is that there are so many people who imediatly say "It's just a TV illusion, they can't actualy do that." For anyone out there with this mindset, I have this to say:
DUH! There is a reason it's called the art of illusion. We know magic is not real, but the point of it is to confuse and entertain. Sometimes it can cause us to, just for a split second, question what we know as possible, and mayby even inspire. Just because it isn't realy does not mean it can't be enjoyed, I mean, look at how popular the WWE is;). One of my favourites quotes, which was used in the opening to David Blaine: Magic Man:

For those who believe no explination is nessicary, for those who do not, none will sufice.I think that pretty much sums up my feeling of magic being fake. Have some imagination, and enjoy the show.
