I'm sure everyone on here has thier own thoughts about Obama. Personaly, I think he'll do the US alot of good. However, I also think that people are making too big a deal of this.
First of all, he's only half black, but the media often disregards that both in his favour and against. And to that point, with all the fighting against segregation and everything, I find that this is another one of those things which in it's self is creating segregation. Everyone should be looking at what he's going to do, not the fact that he's the first black president. I don't mean to sound racist, but I fear that some people may be displeased with the way he runs things because they were blinded by this. For example, Canada elected it's first female PM 18 or 19 years ago. Everyone thought this was great and it was the next step in the rights movement. However, she turned out to in fact be a very bad leader and only lasted a few months in office. Now I don't think Barack will be that bad, but for some voters I do think a similar situation will become apparent.
Second, I think he's been treated quite unfairly by the media. Pre election everyone was either for or against him, and had a clear stance on that. Although unfair, this is the same for every political candidate, so much can be done. However, now post election, from what I do see of US news waaay up here in the great white north, even those who previously supported him seem to be nitpicking every little thing he does pointlessly. It seems like they just want to build up a hero to topple him.
Anyways, that's my little rant, let me know what you think.
