It was going to come up eventually, you know it. Discuss whether you believe, why or why not, proof or lack thereof... you know, normal stuff you find in this type of discussion.
I'll start by saying I'm an atheist. That normally gets things going...

I've avoided (somehow) being an atheist. So far at least. You see, if a christian is wrong...so what? That's the end, nothing happens. Now, if an atheist is wrong....you've got a pissed off deity to deal with, see my point.
Me, I've made my own religion (not really, but just follow me)
I mix different believes and standards of christianity and buddhism (through some shinto, random smaller religions, and even a little hindu) and voila! You have what I call my religion....Christibuddintodu...ism. I don't really have a name for it.

That my firend, is Pascals wager. Looking at odds, it makes more sense to believe then to not.

That's really not uncommon, I've heard a lot of people splice together Buddhism and Christianity.
Well, I practice the Christian religion on a simple conjecture: it preaches a good message. Its a religion that instructs people to be moral, and kind, so I spread its message; that doesn't mean that I definitively believe in it, however.

That doesn't really make any sense.
You can't be right if you make up your own ideas. It has to be real.
Not neccassarily. All religions start as just an idea, how is my own personal one any different? Besides, I blend them, I don't believe many of the major points in any of them.

Personaly, I'm agnostic. I don't aknowledge the existence, or evidence of a god. However I also do not deny the possibility. For example, I am an evolutionist, but I also think it is possible for a supreme being to exist alongside that. What if God was the catalyst and not the creator? I also think there are some interesting philosophies surounding the topic.
That would probly best describe me as well, on evolution anyway. I could technically be considered an agnostic, but I don't really consider myself that.

You treat the matter like it's just a toy when in reality it's the most important thing you should be thinking about...
Nevermind, I don't know why I bother in discussions like this anyway.
It's not so much that I take the matter lightly, quite the opposite in fact. I just think that my life is more important, and that's my mindset right now. If I die tomorrow, I want to be able to say that I enjoyed my life. And thinking about death tends to make me unhappy, uncertain, ect, just as it would any person. So, I avoid it. At least for the moment. I have what I have, and I'm happy with it.

What exactly do you mean? I think holding beliefs one truly supports is one of the most importaqnt things as well, and that's what he's doing. Would it be right if just because someone believes in one of the ten comandments that they should be forced to believe in them all even if they don't support them? SoF didn't say he was any one particular religion either so I don't see why you would say he's taking it lightly.

You weren't discussing anything, you were berating the idea that your religion started out as an idea.
And I don't follow Pascals wager because I don't really feel like spending 1/7 of my life talking to an invisible man whom I'm not actually sure exists.

Pretty much myself, too. although i'm edging a bit more toward atheism, i could accept the possibilty of a god or goddess(s)

Hmm, lets see...
I consider myself a Christian, from the "I believe Jesus is my saviour" kind of perspective. I think your faith comes from your personal experiences.
I find hard to follow with most of the of the things I see to get a lot of weight, for example the "must go to a church" the "must give 10% to God" which means cooperating to the church and all the business it has become for many. I don't agree nor like seem for example Christians calling Jehovah witnesses a sect or Catholics calling off Christian and them all trying hard to turn you into their religion, which they call the true religion and telling you'll be condemn for not following them. Specially when, according to them, there are many souls out there that haven't even heard of this God they talk so proud of. The people in other religions have already acknowledged Christ's gift so let'em be, it is said is "faith" after all and not their deals.
Also I don't agree with seeing the "convert people" as a resort to count your status in heaven, is supposed to do it out of love, not because of a reward. I see a lot of weird things going on that I really find hard to stand a whole preach in a church.
I believe the idea of preaching is just to let people know there is an option to their lives, but it is up to them to decide to go with that, so when people don't respect your right to make up your own mind, it is really irritating to me. I mean after all, we believe that God gave free will, so it doesn't even go against our religion to respect other people choice and view on this.
So if by religion you mean the physical installations, I find them more damaging that good.
